The Eagle Family from Walton-upon-Thames | ![]() |
A significant flight of Eagles has been discovered in Surrey which are descended from a Howard/Eagle marriage dating back to 1860.
Jane Howard [P51] daughter of James Howard [P13] and Jane Stone [P14] was born on the 29th December 1835 at Weston Green, Thames Ditton, Surrey and married William Eagle [P145] on the 27th May 1860 at the Parish Church of Esher, Surrey. William was one of at least three children born to Thomas Eagle and Rachel George who were married on 27 Feb 1831 at Sunbury-on-Thames. Sadly, to date, little is known of this family prior to 1831 and further research is required to establish the origins of this Eagle family.
William Eagle was baptised at Walton-upon-Thames, Surrey in 1834, which remains to this day, home to some of the descendants of this Eagle family. William Eagle was a Carpenter, having been indentured to James Tickner of Esher as an apprentice Carpenter on the 16th April 1855. William's father, Thomas must have died relatively young, as by 1851, Rachel Eagle with Betsey and John Eagle were living at Esher, Surrey, Rachel is noted as a widow.
William and Jane Eagle were to have a large family of ten children, Thomas George Eagle [P189] born 28 May 1860 - in the nick of time one could say at East Mosley, Surrey; Rachel Eagle [P190], born 24th November 1862 at Hornsey, Middlesex; Ada Ellen Eagle [P191], born 16th January 1864 at Forest Hill, Kent; Rhoda Emma Eagle [P192], born 11th January 1866 again at Forest Hill Kent; Ann Elizabeth Eagle [P193] born on the 3 August 1868 also at Forest Hill, Kent; Olive Betsey Eagle [P163] born on the 20th November 1870 at Hersham, Surrey, James William Eagle [P214], born 1 October 1872 at Walton-upon-Thames, Surrey; Ethel May Eagle [P164] born 27th November 1875; Beatrice Mini Eagle [P165] born 15 December 1878 and finally Kate Amelia Eagle [P215] who was baptised on 7th February 1886 at St. Peters Church, Hersham and who died in infancy. Kate Amelia Eagle was buried at St. Peters on the 31 March 1888, aged 2 years.
The descendants of Thomas George, Ethel May
and Beatrice Mini have been traced to date leaving much
scope for the future. In 2001 I was bale to track down the marriages of other members
of this family but am still waiting for the lucky break that will open up this
branch of the tree for further investigation. Those families traced include a family
living in Australia and is one of two extended families now
firmly routed in that country. For further details of this family
