Descendants of John Matthew Howard

I have Howard's from Georgia that I have done a little research on, but have found very little.  I admit I have not done too thorough a job. Because they have been harder than other lines I have neglected them.  I am sending my Howard information for you to see.  Let me know what you think.  Do you see any connections with any of your family or anything you have seen?  Thanks

Generation No. 1

1. JOHN MATTHEW1 HOWARD1 was born 18461, and died 19141. He married NO NAME1. She was born 18461, and died 19201.

HOWARD, Mrs. Jane, widow and relict of Major John Howard at her  residence near Columbus on Feb 2. Formerly of Milledge-ville, in the  68th yr. of her age. (2-9-1837)  ( could this be his grandmother?)

Child of JOHN HOWARD and NO NAME is:

2. i. JOHN WILLIAM2 HOWARD, b. January 03, 1869, Girard, of Russell Co. Alabama; d. September 1924.

Generation No. 2

2. JOHN WILLIAM2 HOWARD (JOHN MATTHEW1)1 was born January 03, 1869 in Girard, of Russell Co. Alabama1, and died September 19241. He married EDITH HARRIET FELL1 June 24, 1897 in Russell County, Alabama1, daughter of THOMAS FELL and MARGARET KNOWLES. She was born April 12, 18801, and died December 14, 19341.

Notes for JOHN WILLIAM HOWARD :  A family member told me that he was, or his family originally way from the east.  He was having trouble finding work and returned East to look for a job.  While there he fell ill and died.  they also said they believed she remarried after John William died.  However, looking at his death date and her remarriage date, this does not go together.  Either the death date was wrong or she remarried before he died.   A Moore relative (from her second marriage, verifies the information on birth dates etc. from the Moore family)  John W. HOWARD IGI gives the following information

Sex: M Marriage(s): Spouse: Edith FELL Marriage: 24 Jun 1897 Russell, Alabama  Batch number: M593423

Event (s): Born: 3 Jan 1869 Girard', Of, Russell, 'Alabama Marriage(s): Spouse: Edith Elizabeth FELL Film Number: 0170463 Page Number: 400 Reference Number: 11195

Notes for EDITH HARRIET FELL:  Married the Moore man and had five more children. No more information at this time. Also not sure if birth date is correct. It is entered in one Bible as this date, but in another bible someone else has another date.

IGI record gives her marriage date and place as shown here.

Child of JOHN HOWARD and EDITH FELL is:

3. i. EDITH ELIZABETH3 HOWARD, b. October 01, 1899, Girard, Alabama; d. November 26, 1978, Columbus, Georgia.

Generation No. 3

George Howard b. abt 1838 in Pennsylvania?

Hello,   I am looking for information about George Howard, born 1838 in Pennsylvania.  In the 1880 census, he listed his parents as being born in Germany.  In the 1900 census, he listed his parents as being born in Holland.  He had two sons born in Arkansas, Robert Lafayette Howard and Edward Howard and a daughter named Anna Howard.  There were no descendants from Edward or Anna.  My father, George Robert Howard, was told that he had many cousins, though he never met them.  I am interested in discovering if any other Howards have ancestors from Holland or Germany.  I haven't found any.

Harry B. Howard

Well, I'm beginning my family search so I feel really weird writing to someone I don't know.  Perhaps you can help.  I am looking for information  about my Howard line.  My grandfather came from Patterson, New Jersey.  His name was Harry B. Howard.  I think the B stands for Burnell.  We think his mother's maiden name was Abbott. He had an uncle named Frank Abbott.  Harry married Lillian May(e) Hamrick and they had three children: Robert, Audree and Barbara. There are two versions of what Harry's family employment:  One is his father was associated with the Botany 500 clothing manufacturers. The other story is they had ribbon mills.     We think a James Howard came over from Ireland or Scotland.  James was a boiler maker or what would be a plumber today.  He settled in the New Jersey area, we think. I guess James would be Harry's grandfather or maybe even his father. Harry was the black sheep of the family. He left New Jersey at the turn of the century and never returned.  He died in Texas... maybe Houston some time after 1952..  He was a drunk and never became much in his life. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi!  Here's what we're trying to find out. In Pennsylvania: My great-great grandmother got pregnant.  The biological father was Charles Steggers.  She was not permitted to marry him because he was Catholic and she was protestant.  She had the child and later married someone else and had more children.  Charles Steggers moved to Ohio.  We know nothing more about him except that his mother's maiden name was Howard. If you have any leads, I'd appreciate it! Thanks!

linking Greenup Jackson Howard, b. c. 1829-1830, Illinois, USA. to earlier English Ancesters.

The earliest verified connection to the Howard family is through Greenup Jackson Howard, born Abt. 1829-1830, in Illinois, USA. He married Eliza (Elisa) Tabitha Rogers (Rodgers) in Montgomery County, Missouri, USA, Abt. 1853. He later married Ann C. Black in Atascosa County, Texas USA, July 21, 1882. Unverified information: His father was Joseph Howard, born Abt. 1792, son of Charles Howard and Polly Lewis. He married N.F.N. McCormick, and had three children: Greenup J., Nancy, and Matilda. Searching for: Information on
ancesters of George Howard married Ellen Graham in Inverell northern NSW c. 1890

I came across this site by accident when I accessed the LDS records and asked for any information on an Elizabeth Graham, whose father was Charles Graham and mother was Elizabeth Robertson. Your site came up as one of a number of references and my interest is that as well as the Grahams being ancestors of mine, so are the Howards. My Elizabeth Eupham Graham was born in Edinburgh Scotland in 1772 and was sentenced to 14 years transportation to Australia for receiving stolen goods. She arrived here on the "Pitt" in 1792 and in 1794 gave birth to twins to a Matthias Lock whom she was living with at the time. One of their descendants, my grandmother Ellen Graham, married a George Howard in Inverell northern N.S.W. in 1890. George Howard's father Henry married a Sarah Baker Thorne in Armidale N.S.W. in 1858 but we can find no trace of him prior to this. His children's birth certificates state that he was born in Adelaide South Australia in 1834 however Adelaide did not exist at that time. His headstone in Inverell Cemetery says "Henry Howard of Salisbury England" but so far we can find no trace of him entering the country. Is anyone else researching this branch of the Howard family and what is your connection with Elizabeth Graham? One possible problem is that stories handed down through the family suggest that at some time the name may have been changed from Coward to Howard although this avenue has also been investigated to no avail.

I am George R. Howard from Wisconsin and have been searching back the direct line to William H. Howard born c. May 21, 1834 in Woburn parish. He came to America in 1849 after serving as a butcher for three trips across the Atlantic to earn the money for passage.  He married a Sarah Tarrant in America in 1856.  She may be the Sarah Tarrant baptized in Woolhampton Parish December 22, 1839.  Her parents are George Tarrant and Ann Chandler Tarrant from England. William first settled in New York state, his parents arrived a year later and went to Wisconsin (Rock County) in 1854.  The entire family has been active in the church. I have birth and death certificates for most all my ancestry until William (no official birth record).  His father was named either George or William George (his tombstone reads "George Howard"). I would appreciate any information you might provide to help me go back further than that.
